DEPARTMENTS

Professor Silviu Angelescu, senior researcher I, holds a BA (1972) in Romanian and French from the University of Bucharest, and a PhD in philology (1983) from the same university, with a thesis on portrayal patterns in oral and written epic work. Since graduation he has taught in the Ethnology and Folklore Department of the University of Bucharest, where he eventually became a professor. Between 1991 and 1995 he was head of the Faculty of Letters’ Chair of Ethnology and Folklore, and between 1997 and 2004 he was director of the university’s summer courses. He was in charge of the Art History Institute from 1999 to March 2011. He supervised the development of the institute’s national research projects within the CERES and CEEX research programmes. Co-founder of the project entitled The Danube and the Danube. The River and Its Representation in Art, the outcome of which was made public in a series of international symposia between 2005 and 2008. He also was the director of the two journals edited by the institute.
